The trapezoidal rule is a technique for approximating the definite integral. The trapezoidal rule works by approximating the region under the graph of the function as a trapezoid and calculating its area.

Simpson’s rule is a method for numerical integration, the numerical approximation of definite integrals.

An n-point Gaussian quadrature rule is a quadrature rule constructed to yield an exact result for polynomials of degree 2n − 1 or less by a suitable choice of the points xi and weights wi for i = 1, …, n.
